Not tried yet :

Bianca (Italian on Bleeker Street)
Inoteca (no reservations and usually a bit of a wait)
Wolfgang’s or Peter Lugar’s (great steak houses, one in Manhattan and one in Brooklyn – Peter Lugar’s is world famous, but have to make the trip to Brooklyn)
Lupa (need reservations one month in advance – not expensive but great food)
Momofuko Noodle Bar
Frankies Sputino http://www.frankiesspuntino.com/17/index.htmlgreat, reasonable Italian. romantic! no reservations, often always await for a table (bc its so small), but worth it! the one on ClintonStreet is the one in Manhattan.

On the Lower East Side Cafe Habana http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/7109199/new_york_ny/cafe_habana.html this is a great spot for brunch, lunch, or dinner. order the corn! This is in the neighborhood of Nolita (where Dan and i used to live). It's a great neighborhood for walking around on a nice afternoon...lots of great boutiques, independant stores/bookstores.. greatcafes... including this one! Casual as well. the waitresses here arealso know for being extra attractive.. dan has a crush on every otherone.

Cafe Gitanehttp://www.yelp.com/biz/cafe-gitane-new-yorkaround the corner from the above place... one of our FAVORITES! greatfood, great people watching. small, inexpensive, yummy & interestingdishes. order the cous cous with chicken!

Pearl Oyster Barhttp://www.pearloysterbar.com/if you love seafood, this place is GREAT. amazing fried oysters &lobster roll. what do you know... also no reservations, but worth thewait, and on a really cute street (Cornelia) if you need to walkaround for a bit before your table comes up.

In the West Village Po' http://www.porestaurant.com/main/this is also on Cornelia Street... across from Pearl Oyster bar. Thisis our "go-to" special occasion restaurant. Absolutely deliciousItalian. order and share everything. and they take reservations!!!!

New Green Bohttp://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/11313393If i have to eat chinese food, this is the only place in NY that ilike to go to. It couldnt be more of a dump, but the soup dumplings(pork and crab) could not be more delicious. This is in Chinatown(which i'm sure you 'll make it down to at some point). Communaltables. Across the street is the Chinatown ice cream place (there's abig yellow flag with a dragon) that is really good, too. they havevery crazy chinese ice cream flavors... i like lychee!

Yama http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/7087418this should be higher up on the list. GREAT sushi. they havemultiple locations, but the one on Irving is by far the best. veryfresh sushi. i've been every time i've come back down to NY from VT.big portions too... nearly impossible to under order. the entrance isdown a couple of steps... hard to see from the street, but there isusually a crowd on the corner waiting for tables. And while you waitfor your table, right around the corner is a great wine bar called....

Bar Jamonhttp://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/bar-jamon/a fantastic Spanish wine bar. unfortunately, small and popular... sosometimes a wait here as well; but good wine; and great small plates(and cheeses!)

Loreleyhttp://www.loreleynyc.com/indexFlash.htmlrestaurant & beer garden. super casual. The best schnitzel i've everhad. a million beers to choose from. lots of drunk guys talkingabout sports.

a great website for you is:http://www.menupages.com/you can type in any ny restaurant & it gives you all the basic info(location, phone, etc). you can then see their menu online/how muchtheir dishes go for/overall customer reviews, etc.

best restaurant rule of thumb: eatat places that are full of people! and don't forget: many of the bestNY spots are CASH ONLY.
